How fast do cavities progress?

I'm concerned about my dental health, especially after hearing about a friend who needed a root canal because of a rapidly progressing cavity. How quickly can cavities progress from a small spot to something serious if not treated?

I used to have terrible dental anxiety and cried before every dentist visit, thinking my teeth were rotting away rapidly. But my doctor assured me that cavity progression is actually a very slow process that takes many months. Knowing that helped me calm down and get treated.

I totally get it, dental pain and worrying about cavities can make anyone very anxious. Please know that cavities progress quite slowly, usually over a span of several months to a year. You have plenty of time to visit a dentist and get it treated comfortably.

Hamare gaon me log neem ki datun karte hain aur daant achhe rehte hain. Sadan dhire dhire hi badhti hai, ek do din me kuch nahi hota. Par agar daant me dard shuru ho gaya hai, to shehar jaakar doctor babu ko dikha lena chahiye.

While looking up dental hygiene facts, I learned that cavity progression varies depending on your saliva quality and diet. For people who drink lots of tea with sugar throughout the day, it progresses much faster than normal because the mouth stays acidic. Pretty interesting how habits affect the speed.

I tried clove oil and salt water rinses for months to stop a cavity, but while they helped with the temporary pain, the decay kept progressing slowly. Home remedies only soothe the surface, they cannot cure a cavity. You must go get a professional filling done.

The progression speed depends on where the cavity is. On the hard outer part, it moves like a snail for months. But once it breaches the enamel and enters the dentin, it progresses super fast and you'll feel sharp sensitivity to cold water immediately. Don't wait for that stage.
