How fast can lung cancer develop?

My uncle, who was a smoker, recently got diagnosed with lung cancer, and it was quite advanced when detected. I'm trying to quit smoking myself. How fast can lung cancer develop once it starts forming? Does it take years?

I was actually reading about this yesterday out of curiosity, and it seems to vary quite a bit. Some slow-growing types can take several years to develop, while small cell lung cancer can grow and spread within a few months. It's crazy how different the types are.

I know exactly how terrifying it is to worry about this, especially with all the pollution around us now. Usually, it develops slowly over many years, but some aggressive types can appear quickly. If you have a persistent cough or chest pain, please see a doctor to ease your anxiety.

For most people, it takes many years of gradual cell changes to form a tumor. Try to take deep breaths and don't panic. If you are feeling unwell, a simple visit to a general physician will help you find the right answers.

The growth rate depends entirely on whether it is non-small cell or small cell lung cancer, with some aggressive forms developing in under a year. Please do not ignore chronic coughs or shortness of breath. It is always safest to get a chest X-ray or CT scan done under a doctor's guidance.

Lung changes usually happen slowly over a long span of time, though some aggressive forms can manifest sooner. Keep your mind calm, practice deep gentle breathing, and eat clean. Let the doctors run the necessary tests while you focus on staying positive.
