My son has had a high fever since last night, and I gave him some paracetamol. How quickly can a fever usually come down after medication? Should I be worried if it takes a while?

Don't listen to people who say a fever will disappear in a few hours with some home trick. A normal viral fever takes 3 to 5 days to run its course. If it doesn't come down with paracetamol, verify with a doctor immediately.
I totally get it, lying in bed with a high temperature is the worst feeling ever. Usually, a fever should start coming down within 48 hours with basic medication. Make sure you drink lots of water and rest.
Usually, a mild fever can settle in 1 or 2 days with proper rest and warm fluids. Putting a cold, wet cloth on the forehead helps bring the temperature down safely at home. But if it stays high for more than 3 days, please see a doctor.
If it is a simple viral infection, it should resolve within 3 days. If it's a bacterial infection, you might need antibiotics which will clear it up in 48 hours after starting. Get a proper blood test if it persists.
Standard viral fever takes at least three days to go, haan na. Don't rush to take strong medicines immediately. Just take rest and drink warm soup, it will go away slowly.

I was just reading about this online, and it seems most standard fevers last about 3 to 4 days. It basically depends on how fast your immune system fights off the virus. It's quite fascinating how the body works.
I had a bad fever last week. With regular paracetamol prescribed by my doctor, the temperature broke on the second day, but the body weakness lasted for a full week. Give your body some time to recover fully.
