How does the va rate sleep apnea?

My wife keeps complaining that I snore very loudly and sometimes stop breathing in my sleep. I'm going to see a sleep specialist soon. I was wondering, how do doctors typically assess or 'rate' the severity of sleep apnea here in India?

I totally get it, trying to navigate the VA rating system can be so exhausting and confusing. Basically, they rate sleep apnea at 0%, 30%, 50%, or 100% depending on how severe it is. If you require a CPAP machine to breathe at night, you generally qualify for a 50% rating.

The VA decides the rating based on the medical need for breathing assistance devices. While you work through their process, practicing deep pranayama like Anulom Vilom and Ujjayi breath can help strengthen your respiratory muscles and bring peace to your sleep.

They rate it based on sleep study data and whether a CPAP or dental device is prescribed. While dealing with the VA, focusing on weight management through regular walking or jogging, if your doctor allows, can really help reduce the severity of sleep apnea symptoms.

The rating is straightforward: if you need a CPAP machine, you get 50%, and if you have severe sinus or heart issues due to it, it goes higher. To secure this, you need a proper sleep study report from a certified lab. Don't waste money on private tests first, use the VA-approved facilities.

The VA looks at whether you need a breathing machine like a CPAP, which usually gets you a 50% rating. Having sleep issues makes me crave heavy street food late at night, which just makes sleep worse! Try to keep the dinners light while you go through your medical exams.

To get a rating, you must have an official sleep study (polysomnography) showing an apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) that meets their criteria. Since the VA takes a long time to schedule these, make sure all your private medical documentation is uploaded beforehand to speed up the process.
