How does someone get eczema?

My younger sister suddenly developed patches of red, itchy skin that her doctor said might be eczema. We've never had skin issues in our family, so I'm curious. How do people get eczema, and what triggers it?

Eczema is a complex skin barrier issue often linked to genetics and immune triggers, not just dry skin. Don't trust random internet remedies like applying strong essential oils, which will only inflame your skin further. Please consult a qualified dermatologist for a proper prescription.

In my experience, my eczema flares up terribly whenever I use scented body washes or during dry winter months. Switching to a completely fragrance-free moisturizer and using cold water for baths has helped keep my skin calm. That is just what has worked for my skin.

Haan, skin allergy scales and itching can be so annoying, na! Eczema usually happens due to super dry skin or when you touch some harsh chemical detergents. Just keep your skin well-moisturized and avoid scratchy woolen clothes directly on your skin.

I totally get it, dealing with constant skin itching and redness can be so mentally frustrating and painful. It is often triggered by simple things like dust, weather changes, or even stress. Please be gentle with yourself and give your skin time to heal.

I just recovered from a severe eczema flare-up on my hands. The trigger turned out to be a new liquid dish soap I was using without gloves. Once I switched to a hypoallergenic soap and started applying thick ceramide cream, my skin healed completely.

Eczema is often connected to internal gut inflammation. Reducing highly processed foods and dairy, along with keeping yourself hydrated during workouts, can help calm skin flares. Sweat can sometimes irritate eczema, so make sure to shower with a mild soap immediately after exercising.
