How does social media addiction affect mental health?

My younger brother spends hours daily on social media, and he often seems restless or anxious when he's not online. I'm worried if this heavy usage is affecting his mind. Can too much social media really be bad for mental health, and if so, how does it impact us?

Spending hours scrolling on your phone is not just a waste of time, it leads to heavy mental fatigue and anxiety. Instead of paying for expensive digital detox apps or therapy sessions later, plan a simple, free routine of keeping your phone locked in another room for 3 hours daily. Practical planning saves both your mental peace and your hard-earned money.

I was reading an article about how social media triggers constant dopamine hits, which actually reduces our real-life attention span. It makes so much sense because whenever I try to read a book now, my hand automatically reaches for my phone every five minutes. It is scary how our brains are being rewired without us realizing it.

Haan na, social media par sabki perfect life dekh kar hume lagta hai hum hi peeche reh gaye hain. This constant comparison is so bad for our peace of mind, ho na? It is better to close the screen and live in the real world for some time.

I ignored my late-night scrolling habit for two years, thinking it was just harmless entertainment, until it turned into severe clinical insomnia and panic attacks. By the time I took it seriously, my mental health was completely ruined. Please get a professional psychological evaluation if you feel you cannot stay off your phone.

Replacing screen time with physical activity is a game-changer for your brain. When you work out, you get a natural endorphin rush that beats any online 'like' notification. Try setting a rule: no phone usage during your daily workout session, and watch your mental focus improve.

For me, the stress and late-night screen time from social media addiction directly affected my sleep, which in turn spiked my morning fasting sugar levels. Managing diabetes requires keeping stress hormones like cortisol low. I had to discipline my digital habits to protect my physical health.

I can only share what worked for me, but deleting Instagram and Facebook for a month completely changed my mental state. I used to feel constantly anxious and insecure, but staying away from the screen brought a strange, beautiful calm back into my life. I highly recommend trying a short digital break.

It can be really overwhelming to constantly see so much information and noise online. Your mind deserves a quiet space to just exist without being judged by likes or views. Take a gentle break today, even if it is just for a few hours.
