How does sleep work?

We all sleep every day, but sometimes I wonder what actually happens when we sleep. What are the different stages, and how does our brain and body function during that time? I'm just curious to know the basics of how sleep really works.

I can only tell you what I feel myself. When I sleep, it is like my body is shutting down non-essential systems so it can repair my muscles and clear my head. If I don't get that solid rest, my entire day goes bad and I feel physically weak.

I am pretty sure my sleep cycle is broken because my brain decides to explain quantum physics to me at 3 AM. Theoretically, sleep is when your body repairs itself, but in my case, it is just when I lie down and regret all my life choices!

Sleep is like your phone going into charging mode overnight! Your brain organizes all your memories and your body repairs itself so you wake up fresh. It is nature's own free beauty treatment and energy booster.

For me, sleep is when my body balances my hormones like insulin and cortisol. It is a slow, delicate process and keeping a consistent sleep schedule has helped me manage my PCOS symptoms. It isn't a quick cure, but a steady routine definitely supports your health.

Honestly, sleep is just my body's battery recharge. If I sleep less than 6 hours, I am totally useless at work and my gym workouts are terrible. When I sleep well, my focus is sharp and my muscles feel fully recovered.

Sleep works by lowering your heart rate and blood pressure, giving your cardiovascular system a much-needed break. Since I have high BP, maintaining a calm sleep routine is part of my daily health management. Regular doctor checkups and good sleep keep my numbers stable.

My sleep cycles were completely disrupted due to severe hormonal imbalances, which I ignored for months. Sleep is a complex hormonal process, not just closing your eyes. If you feel constantly tired even after sleeping 8 hours, please consult a specialist to find the real issue.

Don't buy into online myths about 'sleeping hacks' or herbal drops that claim to optimize your sleep cycle. Sleep works in structured cycles of REM and non-REM stages controlled by your circadian rhythm. If you have chronic sleep issues, get a clinical sleep study done instead of trying internet remedies.

I read that during sleep, our brain literally flushes out metabolic waste, which made me so anxious about what happens if I miss even one hour! But don't worry too much, our bodies are designed to handle occasional sleeplessness. Just try to keep a regular bedtime to support your brain.

The circadian rhythm that controls sleep also regulates our digestion and hunger hormones. I always make sure to eat a light, early vegetarian dinner by 7:30 PM so my stomach isn't working hard while my brain is trying to rest. A light stomach leads to much deeper sleep.
