How does self esteem affect mental health?

My friend has been going through a tough time lately and keeps talking about her low self-esteem. It made me wonder how much it really impacts overall mental well-being. Can anyone explain the connection simply?

Beta, if you do not respect yourself, the mind will always remain in a state of unrest and worry. Good mental health starts when we stop comparing our lives with others on mobile phones. Eat good home-cooked meals, drink warm milk with a little turmeric at night, and sit quietly in prayer or meditation for ten minutes. Calmness of the soul is the first step to building real self-esteem.

Honestly, it ruins your head completely. Last year when I was struggling to find a job, my self-esteem hit rock bottom and I started getting massive panic attacks out of nowhere. I stopped talking to friends and just locked myself up. Once I started working out and stopped taking every rejection personally, my mental state improved big time.

At my age, I can tell you that low self-esteem is like carrying a heavy bag you dont even need. In my 30s, I used to worry constantly about what relatives would say and it ruined my peace of mind and sleep. Once you realize your worth doesn't depend on external validation, your anxiety levels drop beautifully. Please be gentle with yourself, life is too short to live in self-doubt.

It is an exhausting loop because when you feel low about yourself, you accept bad treatment from others which makes your depression even worse. I spent years thinking I wasn't smart enough, and it took a lot of crying and healing to realize my thoughts were lying to me. Your pain is very real, and it is totally okay if you need time to build your confidence back.

When my confidence level dropped to an all-time low, it actually triggered severe clinical anxiety. I wasted a lot of time reading random self-help stuff online before finally going to a proper clinical psychologist at Max Hospital. If this self-doubt is making you feel constantly hopeless or empty, please book an appointment with a professional therapist instead of trying to fix it alone.

Haan na, self-esteem kharab ho toh negative thoughts automatically dimaag mein aane lagte hain. When we doubt our own decisions, even small everyday tasks feel like a huge burden. I also used to feel so underconfident after my career gap. Thoda self-love is very important, otherwise mental peace completely disturb ho jati hai, ho na?
