How does physical activity benefit your mental health?

My therapist recently told me to incorporate more physical activity into my routine to help with my anxiety. I'm trying to understand the exact mechanisms through which exercise can be beneficial for mental health. How does it really work?

Think of it as free therapy where you get to sweat out all the anger you have for your boss! When you exercise, your brain releases endorphins, which are basically happy chemicals. Trust me, it's hard to feel completely miserable when you're busy catching your breath after a good run.

When I was going through a tough phase, I tried drinking herbal teas and sleep apps, but nothing worked like a simple daily walk. Moving your body reduces the stress hormone cortisol and helps you sleep much better at night. Start with just 15 minutes of walking, it really heals the mind slowly.

I used to think that my racing heart during exercise was an anxiety attack, which made me panic and avoid working out. But my doctor explained it's just the natural physical response to exertion and totally normal. Once I pushed past that fear, regular workouts became my biggest escape from daily stress.

Honestly, a good workout is the only reason I can enjoy my weekly biryani without feeling guilty! Physical activity really clears the brain fog and actually helps control those sudden stress-eating cravings. It keeps your mood stable so you don't end up emotional-eating late at night.

Haan na, working out really changes the mood completely. Even if you are feeling very low, just put on your shoes and walk for a bit, you will feel so much lighter. It works like magic for the mind, actual stressbuster hai woh.
