How does physical activity affect mental health?

Lately, I've been feeling a bit low and stressed with work pressure. My cousin suggested that doing some exercise might help me feel better mentally. I want to understand how physical activity can actually affect our mood and overall mental well-being.

Walking barefoot on green grass early in the morning and taking deep breaths of fresh air really helps calm a stressed mind. Physical activity releases happy hormones naturally, which lightens the heavy feeling in the chest. But remember, if you are feeling severe anxiety or depression, please consult a clinical doctor.

I can only speak from my own experience, but joining a badminton club last year completely changed my mood. Whenever I had a bad day at work, running on the court helped release all that pent-up frustration. It just gives you a mental break from your daily worries.

I have been feeling very down lately and my friends suggested I start going for light jogs. Does it really help with overthinking and feeling anxious? I want to try it, but sometimes I just find it hard to get out of bed, so any small tips on how to start would be really nice.

Beta, staying active keeps the body and mind both sharp and free of negative thoughts. Even a simple evening stroll with your family or doing some light stretching at home helps. Along with this, eating fresh, home-cooked food is very important for a peaceful mind.

When my thyroid levels were completely off, I felt extremely depressed and lacked any energy to move. Regular walking helped improve my mood, but the real change happened when my doctor adjusted my medication based on fresh blood tests. Make sure to get your hormonal levels checked too, as physical activity alone might not be enough.
