How does one get psoriasis?

My cousin sister has been suffering from psoriasis for a long time, and it looks quite difficult for her. I'm worried if it's something that can spread to other family members or if we can get it too. Just wondering what exactly causes it and how it spreads, if at all.

Honestly, I used to think my skin flared up because of too much spicy misal pav or late-night street food. But actually, my doc told me it is an autoimmune thing, not just about what we eat. Still, cutting down on heavy gluten and sugar helped calm my skin a bit, though my cravings hate me for it!

It is basically a mix of your genetics and environmental triggers like cold weather or immense stress. Please don't self-diagnose based on internet articles. It is best to visit a dermatologist to get a proper treatment plan tailored for your skin type.

Beta, many people in our community ask this. It is not contagious at all, so don't worry about that. It usually runs in families or starts after a bad infection or stressful phase, so keep your skin well-moisturized and consult a good doc.

My health tracker showed a crazy spike in my stress levels and resting heart rate just before my last patch appeared. Psoriasis is mostly genetic where your immune system acts up and makes skin cells grow way too fast. Keep an eye on your sleep and stress metrics, those are huge triggers.

I got my first patch during my final exams and was so confused! My doctor explained that our own immune system gets confused and attacks healthy skin cells. Just focus on keeping your stress low and use mild, fragrance-free soaps, it really helps.

I totally understand how overwhelming this is, I hid my arms for a year when it first started. It's a genetic condition triggered by immune responses, not something you did wrong or a cleanliness issue. Please be gentle with yourself and find a supportive doctor who understands the emotional toll too.
