How does lack of sleep affect the brain?

For my studies, I often pull all-nighters, and then find it so hard to concentrate the next day. How exactly does not getting enough sleep impact our brain? Does it cause any long-term damage?

Lack of sleep slows down your cognitive function and makes focusing very difficult. For us managing diabetes, it also triggers stress hormones which can spike blood sugar levels, so rest is crucial.

When I consulted a specialist at Medanta, they explained that sleep is when the brain clears out metabolic waste. If you are facing chronic brain fog, please consult a neurologist to address it properly.
