How does homework affect students mental health?

My son seems quite stressed with the amount of homework he gets daily, and I'm worried about him. How does a heavy homework load actually affect a student's mental health? Are there any studies or common observations about this?

From what I have observed with my nieces, excessive homework can really trigger high anxiety and sleep issues. Just like dealing with chronic hormonal stress, constant pressure at a young age is not good. We should support kids and not expect them to be perfect all the time.

I used to get severe headaches and stomach aches out of pure stress over incomplete homework. Do other parents also notice their kids getting extremely anxious or crying over assignments? I worry this pressure is too much for their minds.

In our times, we played in the streets after school and had very little homework. Today's kids are under immense pressure, always studying. Parents should worry less about perfect grades and let their children enjoy their childhood; that is what builds true mental strength.

Honestly, back in school, the sheer volume of homework used to ruin my weekends completely. It felt like a never-ending chore that just caused sleep deprivation and constant panic on Sunday nights. Schools really need to cut down on this busywork.

Haan na, bacche bilkul thak jaate hain. After spending 7-8 hours at school, they have to sit for hours again at home. They get no time to play outside or relax, which makes them very irritable and stressed, ho na.
