How does diabetic ketoacidosis occur?

Since my younger sister has Type 1 diabetes, we were recently told about DKA as a serious complication. We want to be prepared and understand how diabetic ketoacidosis exactly occurs so we can watch out for signs.

Don't panic, but DKA happens when your body doesn't have enough insulin to let sugar into your cells, so it starts burning fat for fuel instead. This creates an buildup of acids called ketones. Keep taking your insulin properly and you will be absolutely fine.

Basically, when your cells are starving for sugar because there's no insulin, they start panic-burning fat like a crazy gym workout, producing toxic ketones. It is a major emergency, so don't try to solve this with green tea—get to a doc!

This is a very serious medical condition, not something we can treat with methi water or karela juice. It happens when severe insulin shortage makes your blood highly acidic. If you feel extremely nauseous or breathless, go to a hospital immediately.

With my PCOS, I struggle with insulin resistance, so I am always careful about these complications. DKA occurs when a lack of insulin forces the body to produce high levels of blood acids. It's best to discuss this risk with your endocrinologist to be safe.

Yes, it happens when a severe lack of insulin makes your body burn fat too fast, leading to toxic acid levels. It is a critical emergency.

My uncle always says keeping hydrated is key, but DKA is a complex medical emergency caused by lack of insulin and high ketone accumulation. My doctor says checking blood sugar regularly and taking prescribed doses is the only real way to prevent it.

I panicked like crazy when I first read about DKA online, thinking it happens randomly. Actually, it mostly happens if you skip your insulin doses or during a severe infection. Just monitor your ketones if your sugar goes very high, and you'll stay safe.
