How does diabetes affect nervous system?

For many years, my mother has had diabetes, and now she is complaining of numbness and tingling in her feet. The doctor mentioned it might be related to her nerves, so I'm trying to understand how diabetes affects the nervous system.

I had constant burning and tingling in my toes, which my doctor said was early diabetic neuropathy. Once I brought my sugar down to normal through regular medicine and diet, the tingling completely stopped. Don't ignore those early signs of nerve damage.

High blood sugar robs the nerves of essential nutrients, leading to numbness or burning sensations. While soaking feet in warm water and taking a little methi powder helps soothe, you must see a doctor immediately if you lose sensation in your feet.

My teenager has Type 1 diabetes and we always monitor for any signs of nerve pain or numbness. High sugar levels damage the tiny blood vessels that supply oxygen to the nerves. Regular checkups and keeping a strict eye on their daily sugar charts is very important.

It slowly weakens the nerve signals, especially in your legs, which is why people don't feel cuts or injuries. Just wear soft, comfortable footwear and do a simple foot check every night before sleeping to stay safe.

I totally get it, dealing with that constant numbness or weird pinprick feelings can be so scary. High glucose damages the protective covering of your nerves over time. Please be gentle with yourself and get your doctor to run a nerve conduction test.
