How does a dr check for prostate cancer?

My father had prostate issues when he was older, so I'm trying to be proactive about my health. I'm wondering what kind of check-ups a doctor usually does to detect prostate cancer. Is it just a blood test or something more involved?

They usually start with a simple blood test called PSA, and yes, the physical finger check which everyone is shy about! Don't worry, the doctor has seen a thousand of them, and it literally takes five seconds. Just close your eyes and it's over before you know it!

Listen, there is absolutely nothing to feel awkward about. The doctor will do a quick physical digital rectal exam and ask for a PSA blood test to check the levels. It is a routine screening for men, so please book the appointment and get it sorted for peace of mind.

At our age, regular checkups are a must. When I go for my hypertension tests, my doctor also does a prostate exam and an ultrasound if needed. Keeping an eye on your lifestyle and getting these screenings done on time saves a lot of trouble later.

They mostly do a physical check and a specific blood test. If your reports are fine and your doctor gives you the green light, keeping up a good physical routine like daily brisk walking helps immensely with overall pelvic and prostate health.

I don't have personal experience with this specific test, but as someone dealing with hormonal issues, I know how scary reproductive health checks can feel. From what I know, doctors are very professional and use simple blood screens first. Just take it one step at a time.
