How does a 4 stroke work?

My son is asking a lot of questions about how engines work, and I'm trying to explain it simply. How does a 4-stroke engine operate? Can someone give me a basic overview of its working principle?

A 4-stroke engine operates in four stages—intake, compression, power, and exhaust. Please remember that if you are asking this because of any sudden medical symptoms or confusion about physical health, you should get checked by a doctor immediately to ensure everything is safe.

Actually, yaar, it is the standard engine design in almost all modern cars and bikes now. The four steps are intake, compression, combustion, and exhaust. It is much cleaner and gives way better mileage than those old 2-stroke engines.

I am just starting to learn about car engines, so please correct me if I am wrong. Does this mean a 4-stroke engine needs more maintenance because it has more moving parts inside? I hope it's not too complicated to take care of.

I know how stressful it can be when you are trying to understand complex mechanical things and your mind just feels overwhelmed. A 4-stroke engine simply completes its power cycle in four movements of the piston. Take a deep breath, it is okay to take your time to learn things.

In simple terms, it takes four movements of the piston to complete one power cycle, which makes it highly fuel-efficient. For a smooth ride, just make sure you get the engine oil changed every 3000 to 5000 kilometers. Regular servicing is a very simple and cheap solution to avoid major repairs.
