How does a 2 stroke diesel work?

I'm trying to understand the mechanics of different engines for a project. Could someone explain how a 2-stroke diesel engine works? What are its main characteristics and operating principles compared to other diesel engines?

A 2-stroke diesel engine completes the power cycle in just two movements of the piston—upward for compression/ignition and downward for power/exhaust. I wish my body worked with that much speed and efficiency nowadays, my joints take ten strokes just to get out of bed in the morning, haha!

These heavy diesel engines work by compressing air very tightly until it gets hot enough to ignite the fuel. But talking about smoke and engines, the pollution from these can really harm your lungs. If you or anyone in the family is coughing or wheezing from exhaust smoke, please see a doctor immediately.

Unlike standard 4-stroke engines, a 2-stroke diesel combines intake, compression, power, and exhaust into just two piston strokes. They are highly powerful and mostly used in large marine ships or locomotives. However, they release a lot of emissions, which is why they aren't used in modern passenger cars.

My brother was explaining this to me the other day! It basically compresses only air in the cylinder, then injects diesel which ignites due to high heat, all in just two steps. It sounds very loud and powerful, but definitely not great for the city air we breathe!

I totally get it, understanding engineering stuff can be so confusing when you first look into it. It basically uses a blower to force fresh air into the cylinder while expelling exhaust gases at the same time, making it work in fewer steps. Hope this simple explanation helps you understand it better!
