How does 2 step tb test work?

My office is doing mandatory health checks, and they mentioned a 2-step TB test. I've heard of TB tests before, but not a 2-step one. How does this kind of TB test actually work?

The 2-step TB test is used to detect latent tuberculosis infection, especially in healthcare workers. My doctor explained that the first skin injection is given and read after 48-72 hours. If it is negative, a second test is done 1 to 3 weeks later to boost the immune system's memory and ensure there is no false negative.

Bhaiya, ismein doctor saheb haath ki tuchha pe ek chota sa teeka lagate hain aur do-teen din baad bulakar use dekhte hain. Phir kuch din baad dubara wahi teeka lagate hain pakka karne ke liye ki koi bemari chupi toh nahi hai. Pareshan mat ho, halki si sui hi lagti hai bas.

I had to get this test done before my routine health checkup because of my high blood pressure and other age-related screenings. It requires two separate visits to the clinic to get the injections and then getting them checked by the nurse. Keeping up with these regular medical screenings is very important as we grow older.

Beta, this 2-step test is just a medical method to check for old infections in your body. Let the doctors do their work properly. Keep your body strong by eating healthy home-cooked food, but for TB testing, strictly follow the hospital's schedule and don't miss the reading dates.

Basically, we do the first skin test and you have to come back in 2 to 3 days so we can measure the swelling. If it's negative, we repeat the same test on the other arm after a week or two. It's just to prevent false negative results, so make sure you don't scratch the test site!
