How do you know if your newborn has asthma?

My 3-month-old baby sometimes makes a wheezing sound when breathing, especially when crying or after a feed. My husband has childhood asthma, so I'm concerned. What are the signs of asthma in such a young baby?

I once ignored my baby's whistling sound during a cold, thinking it was just normal congestion, and it turned into a severe breathing issue later. If you notice your newborn breathing very fast, their chest pulling in deeply, or a wheezing sound, please don't wait. Take them to a pediatrician immediately.

I totally get it, worrying about a newborn's breathing can make any parent lose sleep with anxiety. It's hard to diagnose asthma in babies so young, but look out for rapid breathing, coughing fits, or grunting sounds. Please visit your pediatrician to get a professional evaluation and ease your mind.

Keeping a newborn's environment clean and dust-free is super important for their developing lungs. While keeping them active and feeding them well is great, wheezing or flaring nostrils are signs of breathing trouble. Definitely consult a pediatrician right away if you observe these issues.

Any breathing difficulty in a newborn is extremely serious and should never be self-managed or ignored. If your baby is wheezing, breathing rapidly, or showing blue color around the lips, please go to the nearest pediatric hospital emergency immediately. Safety first, always.

My baby sister had some breathing issues when she was born, and my mom was so stressed out. The doctor told us that if the chest is sucking in below the ribs when they breathe, or if they are too tired to feed, it's a doctor emergency. Better to get it checked by a doc directly.
