How do you know if you have thyroid eye disease?

I've had hyperthyroidism for years, and now my eyes feel really dry and irritated. My doctor mentioned something about thyroid eye disease during my last checkup. What exactly are the symptoms of this condition?

Thyroid eye disease, or Graves' ophthalmopathy, typically manifests as bulging eyes, redness, dryness, or double vision. Since it is closely linked with thyroid dysfunction, self-diagnosing is not recommended. It's highly advisable to consult both an endocrinologist and an ophthalmologist for a comprehensive evaluation.

If your eyes feel unusually watery, dry, or look a bit swollen and bulging lately, it might be related to your thyroid. Don't worry too much! Just schedule a quick checkup with an eye doctor to get it sorted out easily.

I made the mistake of ignoring my dry, irritated eyes for months, thinking it was just screen strain, until they started bulging out. It turned out to be thyroid eye disease and now the treatment is taking much longer. Please go get your eyes and thyroid levels checked immediately if you notice any changes.

Having hyperthyroidism, I was warned about this. If you feel pressure behind your eyes, constant grittiness, or notice they are protruding, get your TSH, T3, and T4 levels checked right away. Regular follow-ups with your specialist are the only way to keep this under control.

If you look in the mirror and feel like your eyes are trying to escape your face, it might be thyroid eye disease! But don't start writing your will just yet. It is very manageable, so just hop over to an eye specialist and get it checked out.

For burning eyes, splash some cool water or use rose water pads to soothe them. But if your eyes are bulging or you have double vision, these home remedies will not help because it is a thyroid issue. Please visit an experienced doctor for proper guidance.

I hope you are not worrying too much. If your eyes feel painful or look puffy, please do visit an ophthalmologist soon, they will guide you gently on what to do next.
