How do you contract autoimmune hepatitis?

My doctor mentioned autoimmune hepatitis as a possibility for some liver issues I'm having. I'm a bit confused, as I thought hepatitis was always an infection. How does one 'contract' an autoimmune condition like autoimmune hepatitis? What causes it to happen?

Autoimmune hepatitis is not something you catch from someone else; it happens when your own immune system starts attacking your liver cells. Because the symptoms can be tricky, please get proper liver function tests and consult a gastroenterologist to get a safe and accurate diagnosis.

Since I have thyroid issues, which is also autoimmune, my doctor told me that sometimes your body's immune system just goes haywire and attacks its own organs like the liver. It's not contagious at all. I highly suggest getting regular LFT tests and keeping a close follow-up with your specialist.

Managing my high blood pressure taught me that our bodies are complex machines. Autoimmune liver issues are internal, not infectious, and often linked to other systemic health factors. Focus on a clean lifestyle, avoid self-medicating with heavy supplements, and get your liver panels checked regularly by a professional.

I have lived long enough to know that when the body attacks itself, the best medicine is patience and good medical guidance. You cannot catch this disease from outside. If someone in your family is facing this, support them, find a good doctor, and trust that modern treatments can manage this very well.

It was so hard for me when I was first looking into liver issues because the word 'hepatitis' makes everyone think it's an infection. Dealing with the emotional stress of a potential autoimmune diagnosis is tough. Just know that it is a genetic and environmental trigger in your own body, and you did nothing wrong to cause it.

Relax, you can't get this from sharing your friend's tiffin or by getting sneezed on! Your immune system basically gets confused and starts acting like a over-possessive bodyguard attacking your own liver. It's an internal glitch, not a virus, so you can stop wearing three masks for this one!

Let's clear up the confusion: you don't 'contract' autoimmune hepatitis. It is a chronic condition where your body's defense mechanism mistakenly targets liver tissue, often triggered by a mix of genetics and environment. If your blood tests show high liver enzymes, a doctor might suggest an autoantibody panel to confirm.

I completely understand how terrifying it is to read about conditions like this online and panic. Please take a deep breath; you cannot contract autoimmune hepatitis from food, water, or other people. It is a non-communicable immune response, so stop worrying about catching it and talk to a doctor to ease your mind.
