How do you co sleep?

My three-month-old wakes up constantly in her crib, and my mother-in-law suggested we try co-sleeping. I'm a bit worried about safety, but also desperate for some sleep. What are the best practices for safe co-sleeping with an infant, especially in an Indian household setup?

Honestly, if you are planning to co-sleep, please talk to your pediatrician first to understand the safety guidelines. We used a firm mattress with absolutely no heavy blankets or loose pillows near the baby. It is always better to get a doctor's clear okay and rules before trying it at home.

I am also thinking about starting this with my one-month-old because she wakes up so much at night. But I feel a bit nervous about rolling over by mistake or making her uncomfortable. How do you manage to keep a safe distance while still keeping them close enough to feed?

Look, practical safety is the main thing here. If you are co-sleeping, avoid any kind of soft bedding, heavy rajais, or keeping the baby between two adults where they can get too hot. Try a bedside cot instead which attaches to your bed frame; it keeps the baby safe on their own flat surface.

Same here, I was so scared initially but it actually saved my sleep. We just placed a small side-car bassinet right next to our bed so she has her own safe space but is still within arm's reach. Just make sure the bedsheet is super tight and your husband also knows the baby is right there.

Totally agree with the bedside crib idea. It is the best way to keep baby close while keeping the actual bed completely clear and safe for everyone.
