How do u get kidney disease?

My father has high blood pressure and diabetes, and our family doctor mentioned that these can affect kidneys. I'm a bit scared, so I wanted to understand better how people get kidney disease.

Mainly by treating your body like a garbage bin and forgetting that water actually exists! But seriously, if you keep your BP in check and stop drinking ten cups of sugary tea, your kidneys will love you forever.

Very true, high blood pressure and diabetes are the leading causes. Keeping those two under control is the best way to protect your kidneys.

Consult a nephrologist

When my uncle had kidney issues, we consulted a proper nephrologist at a major hospital. Kidney function is delicate and gets affected by long-term high blood sugar, so you must get an eGFR and urine test done to know the exact status.

I am a bit scared reading about this. Does eating too much protein or salt also damage the kidneys over time, or is it only because of diseases like diabetes?

My son had a kidney swelling issue last year, so I know how stressful this is. Usually, chronic kidney issues happen due to long-term pressure from uncontrolled blood sugar or blood pressure. Just make sure you reduce sodium in your food and never self-medicate with heavy painkillers.
