How do u get fever blisters?

Last week, I had a small, painful blister near my lip that turned into a sore. My friend called it a fever blister, but I've never had one before. I'm curious how these things actually appear; is it related to feeling sick?

Man, fever blisters are the worst because they completely ruin eating time! I notice I get them right after eating super spicy street food or when my stomach gets upset. The heat from the food triggers something and boom, next day there's a painful bump near my lip.

I get these whenever my body is under extreme stress, which also shoots up my blood pressure. It is usually caused by the herpes simplex virus that stays dormant in the body and wakes up when your immunity is down. Keep an eye on your general health and do regular checkups to make sure your body isn't overworked.

I freaked out so bad the first time I got a fever blister, thinking it was some permanent skin disease! But then my doctor told me they are just cold sores and very common when you have a cold or mild fever. They dry up and go away on their own in a week, so don't worry.

I am looking at one right now in the mirror because I haven't slept more than 4 hours this whole week. My body's immune system has basically given up on me. Sleep deprivation is like an open invitation for these annoying little lip blisters.

My doctor explained that fever blisters are highly contagious and spread through close contact like sharing cups or kissing. The virus enters through tiny breaks in the skin and lies quiet until triggered by sun exposure, fever, or stress. He advised using an antiviral cream the second you feel that tingling sensation before the blister even appears.

These blisters usually indicate excess heat or 'pitta' in the body due to mental tension. Whenever I feel that burning sensation on my lips, I start doing Sheetali pranayama to cool down my system. Taking deep breaths and resting always helps me heal them faster.

I can't say what will work for you, but for me, they always pop up right after I spend a long day out in the harsh sun without lip balm. I just apply some ice wrapped in a cloth to reduce the swelling and wait for it to heal naturally.

I used to get them often when my diet was lacking basic micronutrients and I was overtraining at the gym. When you push your body too hard without proper nutrition, your immunity drops, making you vulnerable to these breakouts. Ensure you're eating enough vitamins and taking rest days.
