How do i know if i've had a stroke?

Yesterday morning, I woke up feeling a sudden numbness on one side of my face and my left arm felt very weak for a few hours. It mostly improved by afternoon, but my blood pressure has been high sometimes, so I'm worried it might have been a minor stroke.

I once had a sudden facial twitching and numb feeling and completely panicked thinking it was a stroke, but it turned out to be just mild anxiety and a pinched nerve. However, if there is actual weakness on one side of the body, slurred speech, or difficulty smiling, those are real stroke signs. It's always best to get a doctor to check you immediately to be safe.

A stroke is an extreme emergency, and you shouldn't worry about the cost of tests in that moment. Go straight to a government medical college or a hospital with a fast stroke-unit, where a CT scan can be done quickly and affordably. Immediate treatment within the first few hours can prevent lifelong disability.

My grandfather recently had a sudden spell of dizziness and was unable to hold his tea cup properly. We are very worried. Are these common signs of a mild stroke, and should we take him to a neurologist immediately for a brain scan?

Remember the BE FAST rule: Balance loss, Eye blurry vision, Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulty, and Time to call emergency. Go to a hospital immediately if you notice these.

Hey, if you are reading about this and getting anxious, just take a deep breath. A stroke has very sudden and clear symptoms like numbness in one arm, difficulty talking, or one side of the face drooping. If you or a family member have none of this, don't stress too much, but if you do see these signs, go straight to the doc.

Having helped support many elders in my family, I always emphasize that a stroke is a neurological emergency. If you experience sudden numbness, confusion, trouble seeing, or a severe headache with no known cause, go to the nearest emergency room. Every minute matters for recovery, so do not delay seeking professional medical help.

My brother survived a stroke because we recognized the signs early. His face suddenly drooped on one side and he couldn't lift his left arm. We did not wait even ten minutes and rushed him to a stroke-ready hospital, which saved his life. Do not give any food or water, just get to an ER immediately.
