How do fever blisters occur?

My young daughter keeps getting these little blisters around her mouth whenever she has a slight fever. Her pediatrician said they're 'fever blisters'. Just curious, how exactly do they occur and what causes them?

They pop up because of the herpes simplex virus which most of us have in our bodies without even knowing. Whenever you get too much sun, have a fever, or get extremely stressed, it gets activated. Don't pick at them, just apply ice early on and use a doctor-prescribed soothing gel.

Hey, don't panic, it looks worse than it actually is. Just make sure you wash your hands frequently and don't rub your eyes after touching the lip area. It will settle down on its own in 8-10 days, just take rest and eat light food.

Oh god, even I got one yesterday and I was so scared! Does it feel like a weird tingling sensation before the blister actually shows up? I hope it doesn't spread, has anyone else had it heal quickly without leaving any dark marks?

Beta, when the body gets too much heat from inside, these small blisters come out near the mouth. Keep your stomach clean, drink coconut water daily, and apply a thoda sa cold ghee on it. God willing, it will heal very soon.

Please don't ignore it if it starts spreading to other parts of your face or eye area. I once ignored a painful blister thinking it was a normal pimple, and it became a nasty secondary infection that required heavy antibiotics. Better to show a dermatologist if the pain is too much.

They usually occur when your immunity is down due to cold, fever, or extreme exhaustion. Just keep the area clean and don't touch it.

While these are usually harmless, it is always safer to consult a qualified skin doctor to confirm what it is. Sometimes other skin conditions or bacterial infections can look exactly like fever blisters. Do not self-medicate with strong over-the-counter creams.

High stress is a major trigger for these outbreaks, just like it messes with our blood pressure. You must focus on getting proper sleep and eating simple, non-spicy meals. If you are also feeling constantly exhausted, get a full body checkup done.
