How did social media effect mental health over time?

Lately, I've been feeling quite drained and anxious after spending a lot of time on social media. I'm curious to know, how has social media generally affected mental health for people over the past few years? Is it just me, or are others also finding it harder to cope?

Constant exposure to social media feeds can clutter our inner peace and create unnecessary desires and anxiety. Taking a few hours daily to disconnect and connect with nature or sit in silence does wonders for our mental well-being. Stay positive, protect your peace, and take care of your beautiful mind.

My mother always tells me that staring at the screen for hours is the root cause of my bad mood and headaches. While her advice to keep the phone away is very true, I also believe speaking to a professional counselor is important if social media anxiety is affecting your daily life. Please consult a doctor if you feel overwhelmed.

I noticed how restless my mind became after spending too much time reading news online. Replacing that screen time with 15 minutes of Nadi Shodhana pranayama in the morning helped me regain my focus and calm. Connecting with your breath is a wonderful way to ground yourself away from the digital chaos.

Honestly, doomscrolling reels at 3 AM has completely ruined my sleep cycle and made me a walking zombie. I get so anxious comparing my life to others while I should actually be sleeping. If you want to save your mental health, put a hard lock on your apps after 10 PM, otherwise you will end up like me!

I kept ignoring my growing irritability and panic attacks, thinking it was just temporary frustration from work and social media stress. It got so bad that I finally had to see a psychiatrist, and I wish I had done it much sooner. If digital fatigue is making you feel constantly depressed, please seek professional help immediately.

We cannot completely avoid screens because of our work and family groups, but we can manage how we use them. I uninstalled all social apps from my phone and only check them on my laptop once a day. This simple change has saved me so much peace of mind and time for my family.

I completely understand how heavy and isolating it feels when you are constantly bombarded with perfect pictures of everyone's lives. It made me feel so insecure and lonely for a long time, and I ended up deleting my accounts for a month. Your feelings are completely valid, and it is okay to step away for your sanity.

I used to panic thinking I was developing severe clinical anxiety because my heart would race after scrolling through social media. But once I spoke to a counselor, I realized it was just a normal sensory overload from too much information. Cutting down my active hours online made me feel perfectly fine again, so don't worry.

Look, if something is making you feel like garbage, just turn it off. Social media is mostly fake anyway, everyone is just posting their best moments. Spend more time talking to real friends face-to-face and getting some fresh air, your mental peace will return automatically.

Over the years, I have seen so many young people in our community struggle with low self-esteem because of online comparison. A practical way to handle this is to unfollow accounts that make you feel inadequate and set strict daily screen limits. Your mental health is far more precious than any virtual likes.
