How dangerous is dengue fever?

With the monsoon season starting, there's a lot of talk about dengue cases increasing in our area. My wife and I are always worried about our kids getting sick. How dangerous is dengue fever, truly, and what should we be most careful about?

Dengue can become extremely dangerous if your platelet count drops suddenly. Please do not wait for the fever to worsen. If you suspect dengue, get a complete blood count (CBC) test done immediately and consult a doctor.

Hey bro, don't stress too much, most cases of dengue are managed easily at home with lots of rest. Just keep drinking coconut water and papaya leaf juice to keep those platelets up. You will be absolutely fine, just chill!

My 10-year-old had dengue last monsoon and it was terrifying because of the high fever. We kept giving him fluids and monitored his temperature every hour. Please watch out for severe stomach pain or vomiting, as those are warning signs to head to the hospital.

It is quite a draining virus and takes away all your physical strength. When I had it, I had to stop my gym workouts completely for three weeks. Only start light walking once your doctor confirms your platelet count has fully stabilized.

Literally half my hostel fell sick with dengue last semester. It is super exhausting and the joint pain is real, but most of us recovered within a week just by sleeping it off and drinking loads of water. Just don't ignore it if you feel too dizzy.

The worst part of dengue is how it completely kills your appetite and taste buds. I could barely stand the sight of food, which is a nightmare for me! Stick to bland khichdi and fresh juices until your body fights it off.

Look, dengue can be scary but if you catch it early, it is highly manageable. Just focus on staying hydrated and taking paracetamol as prescribed by your doctor. Avoid taking aspirin or ibuprofen as they can affect blood clotting.
