How contagious is active tb?

A distant relative was recently diagnosed with active TB, and I'm a bit concerned about visiting them. I want to understand the risks involved. How contagious is active TB really, and what precautions should one take?

Listen, active TB is contagious because it spreads through the air when coughing, but it is not as easily caught as a common cold. Just make sure the patient is wearing a mask and stays in a well-ventilated room. Don't worry, once they start treatment, the contagiousness drops quickly.

Active TB is highly contagious through air droplets, so isolation and wearing N95 masks is absolutely necessary.

It is quite contagious and can lead to severe lung damage if you catch it. I had a relative who suffered terribly from delayed diagnosis. Please don't take any chances, see a pulmonologist immediately if you have been exposed and have a lingering cough.

It spreads through deep coughing in close spaces, so physical distance is vital. While gentle breathing exercises help strengthen the lungs after recovery, medical treatment is the only way to stop the spread. Keep the patient's room filled with fresh air and sunlight.

I totally get it, worrying about catching TB from a loved one is incredibly stressful. Just remember that once they are on regular medicines for about two to three weeks, they stop being contagious. Hang in there, they will get through this.

Active TB spreads quickly if people live in small, closed rooms. We always tell the patient to cover their mouth with a clean cloth while coughing. Take them to the government DOTS clinic nearby, they give very good free treatment.
