How common is type 1 diabetes?

My son was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and I'm really trying to understand everything about it. I want to know how common it is, especially in children, so I can better prepare for his future. Someone told me it's quite rare here in India, is that true?

Honestly bro, it is not as common as type 2 but still plenty of people have it. I got diagnosed when I was 15 and it was a total shocker. You just have to manage insulin daily, but otherwise life goes on normally if you stay disciplined.

Haan na, people always get confused between the two types. Type 1 is actually quite rare compared to type 2, mostly kids or young adults coordinate with it. Mere ek cousin ko hai, starting se insulin chal raha hai bechare ka.

It is definitely less common, which is a relief because managing those crazy dessert cravings with strict insulin doses looks so tough. I have a friend with Type 1 who has to count every single carb before touching sweet treats. Salute to their patience!

It accounts for only about 5 to 10 percent of all diabetes cases globally. My doctor explained that it is an autoimmune condition, meaning the body attacks its own pancreas cells, unlike Type 2 which is mostly lifestyle-related. Best to consult an endocrinologist for proper testing if you suspect anything.
