How common is mouth cancer?

I've been chewing paan for many years, and lately I've been seeing some awareness campaigns about oral health. It made me concerned. How common is mouth cancer, especially for people who chew tobacco?

It is quite common in India, mostly due to tobacco use, but please don't panic. If you or someone you know has an ulcer that hasn't healed in over two weeks, just get it looked at by a doctor to be completely safe.

Indian stats show high numbers because of gutka and tobacco habits. Keeping your body clean, working out daily, and staying away from bad habits is the absolute best defense against this.

It is fairly common here, but early detection makes a huge difference. If you ever notice any unusual white or red patches inside your mouth, a quick dentist checkup is the best way to be sure.

I once ignored a persistent mouth sore thinking it was just a heat boil, and it turned out to be a major infection. Mouth cancer is common enough that you should never delay seeing a doctor for a biopsy if a sore persists.

I understand the fear around this topic, especially with how often we see warnings. While it is one of the more common cancers in our region, staying away from smoking and regular dental cleanings keeps the risk very low.

While researching, I found that India accounts for almost one-third of global mouth cancer cases, mainly linked to smokeless tobacco. It really shows how crucial public awareness campaigns are.

Managing a chronic issue has taught me that regular screening is life-saving. Since oral cancer is relatively common, getting your mouth checked during your routine dental visits is a very smart habit.
