How can you tell if you have rheumatoid arthritis?

My joints have been quite stiff and painful lately, especially in the mornings. A friend mentioned that her mother has rheumatoid arthritis and her symptoms started like this, so I'm a bit concerned.

In my years of dealing with joint issues, the hallmark of RA is morning stiffness that lasts for more than an hour. The joints will also feel warm to the touch and slightly swollen. I always advise people to visit a rheumatologist early because starting treatment early prevents long term joint damage.

For me, the biggest clue was having super stiff fingers in the morning that felt like they were frozen! It usually affects the same joints on both sides of the body, like both wrists or both knees. Don't worry too much, just get a simple blood test done to be sure!

I have been living with RA for ten years now. Apart from the severe morning stiffness, you might notice your small joints like knuckles hurting first. My realistic tip is to keep a symptom diary to show your specialist, and never self-medicate with over-the-counter painkillers as they only mask the issue.

If you are experiencing persistent joint pain along with unexplained fatigue and low-grade fever, go see a doctor. This is an autoimmune condition, not your typical old-age joint wear and tear. Get an RF and anti-CCP blood test done instead of guessing.

Look, if your joints are swelling up for no reason and it is making daily tasks like opening a bottle difficult, stop waiting for it to go away. Go to a good hospital and get a proper checkup. These autoimmune things need proper medical management, not home remedies.

Since I already deal with PCOS, I am very cautious about inflammation in my body. RA often presents with symmetrical joint pain and a feeling of general malaise. It is really important to seek a professional opinion rather than assuming it is just normal muscle pain, as proper blood panels are needed to confirm.
