How can you tell if you have exercise induced asthma?

Whenever I go for a run or do any intense workout, I start wheezing and feel short of breath, sometimes even getting a cough. It makes me stop exercising, which is frustrating. Is this normal, or could it be exercise-induced asthma? What are the main indicators to tell if I might have this condition?

Doing proper warm-up exercises before a workout and breathing through your nose can help reduce the irritation in your lungs. However, if you experience severe breathlessness or a whistling sound while breathing, please consult a doctor. They can perform a simple spirometry test to diagnose it properly.

I completely understand how scary it feels when you suddenly can't breathe properly during a workout, as it used to give me major panic attacks. If you find yourself coughing, wheezing, or feeling tight in the chest about 10-15 minutes into exercising, it could be exercise-induced asthma. Getting it checked by a doc will really help clear your mind.

If you are consistently getting chest tightness, wheezing, or a dry cough during or immediately after a workout, that's a classic sign. Go see a pulmonologist. They will likely do a lung function test before and after a treadmill run to confirm it and prescribe an inhaler if needed.

I thought I was just incredibly out of shape when I gasped for air after a 5-minute jog! But when the coughing and chest tightness persisted long after I stopped, my doctor told me it might be exercise-induced bronchospasm. Don't just blame your stamina, get your lungs checked by a doc.

Since I have thyroid issues, I try to keep regular track of all my physical symptoms. If you feel short of breath and have a persistent cough after jogging or heavy lifting, it's best to consult your general physician. Regular checkups can help rule out other breathing or cardiovascular issues.

Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction should always be formally diagnosed by a medical professional. If you experience severe chest pain, extreme difficulty speaking, or bluish lips during exercise, do not ignore it. Seek immediate emergency medical care as these can be life-threatening symptoms.

Yes, a persistent cough that starts only after you begin running or working out is the most common indicator. Definitely get a doctor's opinion.

I used to get a really bad dry cough and chest tightness every time I went for aerobics. I realized it was worse in cold, dry weather, so I started wearing a light scarf over my mouth. My doctor eventually prescribed a pre-workout inhaler which solved the problem completely.
