How can you tell if you have a heart attack?

My father had a heart attack a few years ago, so I'm always conscious about my own heart health. Recently, I've been having some occasional chest pain and shortness of breath, especially when I exert myself. What are the classic signs and symptoms that indicate someone is actually having a heart attack, and when should I seek immediate help?

Please listen to me very carefully. If you or anyone near you is experiencing heavy chest pressure, difficulty breathing, or sudden cold sweats, do not try any home remedies or assume it is simple gas. Call for emergency medical help and go to the nearest hospital immediately.

A heart attack can show up as sudden, severe squeezing pain or pressure in the center of your chest, which can travel to your left arm, neck, or jaw. This is often accompanied by cold sweating, shortness of breath, or extreme dizziness. Please do not wait or search online, call an ambulance immediately.

My cardiologist friend always emphasizes that heart attack symptoms can be different for everyone; women often feel back pain, nausea, or extreme fatigue rather than classic crushing chest pain. If you experience sudden, unexplained shortness of breath, chest discomfort, or dizziness, please seek emergency medical care immediately.

If you feel a heavy weight on your chest, trouble breathing, or sudden sweating, please don't take any chances. Get someone to take you to the nearest hospital emergency room right away.

Many times people mistake a heart attack for simple stomach gas and waste precious time. If there is sudden, heavy pain in the chest that spreads to the shoulder, or severe breathlessness, home remedies will not help. Go to the hospital immediately without delay.
