How can video games help with mental health?

After a long day, playing some video games helps me relax and de-stress. My parents always say it's a waste of time, but I feel like it actually helps me mentally. In what ways can video games contribute positively to mental health?

I sometimes worry if playing too much affects my sleep cycle and dopamine levels, but honestly, it really helps distract my anxious mind. Just playing a cozy, slow-paced game for 30 minutes in the evening gives my brain a break from constant real-world worrying. Just make sure to take breaks so you don't strain your eyes!

During my worst phase of depression last year, I couldn't face the real world or talk to anyone. Playing simple adventure games online gave me a safe space where I had control and could feel a small sense of achievement again. It truly kept me going on days when getting out of bed felt completely impossible.

In our town, we used to think mobile games are just a waste of time for kids. But during the lockdown, my younger brother showed me a simple farming game, and playing it together really brought us some laughter and peace in difficult times. It is nice when a small game can make you forget your worries for a little while.

While gaming can offer temporary stress relief and cognitive stimulation, we must be careful not to use it as a coping mechanism for deeper anxiety or depression. Excessive screen time can also lead to sleep disorders and physical strain. If you are struggling with your mental health, please consult a registered therapist for proper guidance.

Many modern puzzle and strategy games actually help improve focus, spatial awareness, and problem-solving skills. I use a mindfulness app on my phone, but sometimes playing a quick cooperative game with friends is just as effective for my daily stress recovery score. It is all about maintaining a healthy balance between screen time and physical activity.

I have never really played games before, but my friends say it is very relaxing. Can someone suggest some simple, peaceful games that are good for beginners and help with daily work stress? I would love to try something gentle on my phone.
