How can light from the sun cause skin cancer?

Spending a lot of time outdoors for work has made me think about skin cancer. I've been hearing a lot about it lately. How exactly does exposure to sunlight lead to skin cancer? What is the scientific explanation behind it?

My dermatologist explained that UV radiation from the sun damages the DNA inside our skin cells. Over time, this damage can cause the cells to grow out of control, leading to skin cancer.

While early morning sun is good for vitamin D, harsh afternoon sun has strong UV rays that harm your skin layers. Always use a good sunscreen and wear full sleeves when going out.

Continuous exposure to strong sunlight without protection causes cellular damage over many years. It is highly recommended to wear an SPF 30+ sunscreen and use an umbrella during peak hours.

I didn't know the sun could cause such serious damage. Does this happen to Indian skin tones as well, or is it mostly for fair skin?

Don't worry too much, but yes, ultraviolet rays are quite strong. Just make it a habit to wear sunscreen daily and try to avoid being directly under the sun from 12 to 3 PM.

Bhai, the afternoon sun in our country is very strong. That hot sunlight burns the skin slowly over years, which is why elders always tell us to cover our heads.
