How can i monitor my sleep?

Often wake up feeling tired even after what seems like a full night's sleep. Wondering if there's some way I can track or monitor my sleep patterns to understand what's happening. What are the best ways to do this?

I used to obsessively track my sleep every night, which actually ended up giving me more sleep anxiety! If you want to start, simple smartbands or smartwatches are good for a basic idea of deep sleep. But try not to stress too much over the daily numbers.

Instead of relying on digital gadgets, simply note down your sleeping and waking times in a small diary. Pay close attention to how energetic or tired you feel in the morning, as that is the best natural indicator of your sleep quality. Drinking a little warm milk before bed also helps maintain a steady routine.

I use a free mobile app like Sleep Cycle which tracks my sleep using sound analysis. It's super practical because you just keep your phone on the side table. It even shows a nice weekly graph of your sleep quality.

Expensive smartwatches can cost a lot of money just to track basic sleep. There are many decent budget fitness bands under 2000 rupees that do a perfectly fine job of monitoring heart rate and sleep cycles. Start with a budget-friendly option first before spending a lot.

Personally, I just track my sleep by setting a fixed alarm and seeing how easily I can wake up. If I wake up feeling fresh without multiple alarms, I know my sleep quality was good. Keeping a simple log on my phone has worked fine for me.

If you suspect you have a medical issue like sleep apnea, smartwatches won't give you accurate clinical data. You should consult a doctor at a sleep clinic who can arrange a proper overnight polysomnography test. It is always better to get a professional diagnosis for chronic sleep issues.
