How can i get tested for the breast cancer gene?

My mother and maternal aunt both had breast cancer, and my doctor suggested I might consider genetic testing. I'm a bit worried about my own risk and want to know what the process is to get tested for the gene here in India.

My family has a history of this so we actually had to look into genetic testing recently. You can't just walk into a lab and get it done; you first need to consult an oncologist or a genetic counselor. They will check your family tree and then recommend the specific BRCA gene blood test if it's actually needed.

I totally get it, worrying about family medical history can be really stressful and overwhelming. The best step is to speak with a breast specialist who can explain the genetic testing process and help put your mind at ease. You don't have to navigate this alone, please take it one step at a time.

Practically speaking, this is done via a simple blood or saliva sample, but the pre-test counseling is the most important part. Big diagnostic chains like Lal PathLabs or Metropolis offer these genetic panels, but only get it done after a proper prescription from an oncologist. It saves a lot of confusion regarding the results later.

Haan, generic local labs main normal routine tests ki tarah ye nahi hota hai. You have to go to a bigger hospital or a specialized diagnostic center, na. Pehle checkup karao doctor se, then they will guide you about the genetic counseling part first.

In our family, elders always say prevention is better, but for these specific genetic tests, we must rely completely on medical experts. I suggest visiting a reputed cancer care hospital in your city for a proper consultation. The doctors there will explain the exact cost and procedure for the gene mutation test clearly.
