How bad is the pain of getting braces?

Next month, I'm getting braces put on, and I'm really nervous because my friends told me it's very painful, especially for the first few days. Is it really that bad to get them?

Putting them on doesn't hurt at all, but the pressure starts after a few hours. Don't try random home remedies or chewing hard things to relieve the pain. If it is too uncomfortable, only take the specific pain relievers your orthodontist advised.

The soreness can be stressful, and stress sometimes spikes my blood pressure, so I had to stay calm. The pain is mostly a dull ache for 3 to 5 days after each tightening session. Keep your routine simple and eat soft foods to avoid extra discomfort.

I wore braces for two years. The initial week is the hardest because your inner cheeks get cut by the brackets, so always use the dental wax your doctor gives. Cold milkshakes and soft khichdi are your best friends during those first few days.

The pressure feels like someone is slowly pulling your teeth with a string. Sleeping on your side becomes a challenge because your sore cheeks press against the metal. It’s not agonizing, but it is definitely annoying enough to keep you awake.

My orthodontist explained that the pain is due to the periodontal ligament reacting to the shifting forces. He advised avoiding sticky or hard foods throughout the treatment to prevent damage to the brackets, which can delay the overall process.

Starting braces hurts a little bit, like a tight pulling feeling in the mouth. For 3-4 days you won't be able to bite rotis easily, so eat daliya or soft rice. Do not worry, our bodies adjust to these things very quickly.

I was super anxious that the pain would be unbearable and I wouldn't be able to eat anything. It is completely normal to feel worried about this discomfort. While your jaw will feel quite sore, it is a safe procedure and the pain is temporary.

It is thoda uncomfortable in the beginning, especially when you try to eat. Your teeth feel very sensitive to even light pressure, but it gets much better after 4 days. Just hang in there, the beautiful smile at the end is totally worth the struggle!

When the teeth are shifting, the mind can also feel thoda irritated due to the constant pressure. Doing simple deep breathing or Sheetali pranayama can cool the system and help mindfully manage the jaw tension. Keep yourself calm.

My son got braces last month and cried the first night because his teeth were so sore. I gave him cold curd and cold kheer which helped soothe his mouth. It is hard to see them in pain, but the discomfort really goes away in a few days.

I literally thought I made a huge mistake on day two because my teeth hurt so much when I tried to chew. But then suddenly on day five, the pain vanished! It is just the initial adjustment, so please don't panic.

My braces experience was a bit uncomfortable, but nothing too severe. Just be gentle with your oral hygiene routine because brushing can feel a bit sensitive in the beginning. Take it one day at a time, it gets easier.
