How bad is sciatica pain?

I've been having this terrible pain shooting down my leg from my lower back for the past few weeks. My physiotherapist said it sounds like sciatica. I wanted to know how bad this pain can actually get and what life is like with it.

Oh, that shooting pain down the leg is really no joke! But don't worry, with some gentle physical therapy and regular walking, it gets much better. Keep your chin up, this phase will pass soon!

Please go to a proper hospital and consult an orthopedic specialist or a neurologist. Get an MRI done to see if there is a slipped disc pressing on the nerve, and ask your doctor clearly what exercises you should absolutely avoid. Don't let anyone pull your leg or do rough adjustments.

Do not follow those random YouTube videos showing instant sciatica stretches, as they can seriously worsen a disc herniation. What works for one person might pinch your nerve even more. Only do stretches that a qualified physiotherapist prescribes after looking at your scans.

I've been reading about sciatica because my dad complains of this electric shock-like pain from his hip to his foot. It sounds incredibly painful and makes even sitting down a struggle. Hope everyone dealing with this gets some relief soon.

I ignored a mild shooting pain in my lower back for months, thinking it was just general tiredness, until one day I couldn't even stand up to go to the bathroom. I had to get urgent medical treatment and bed rest. If you have pain radiating down your leg, please get it checked by a doctor immediately.

I got sciatica last year from lifting heavy in the gym with bad form. Honestly, complete bed rest actually made it worse, but doing core strengthening exercises and avoiding long sitting sessions really saved me. Go see a doc and get a proper physiotherapy routine.

While sciatica is a mechanical nerve compression issue, eating an anti-inflammatory vegetarian diet with turmeric and ginger can help reduce overall body inflammation. However, proper medical guidance and targeted physiotherapy are absolutely necessary to relieve the nerve pressure.
