How bad can gas pain be?

For the past few hours, I've had this really sharp pain in my stomach, almost like a cramp, and I think it might be just gas. It's surprisingly intense, making me wonder if gas pain can actually be this severe. Is this normal?

Oh, it can make you feel like you are literally about to explode or having a major heart issue! I once said my final goodbyes to my family, only to let out a massive burp ten minutes later and feel totally fine.

I was actually reading about this on a medical forum yesterday because my dad had severe chest tightness. It’s crazy how trapped gas can mimic a heart attack and cause sharp, stabbing pains in your ribs and back.

I literally rushed to the hospital last year thinking my appendix ruptured because the pain was so sharp. The doctor did an ultrasound, laughed gently, and told me it was just trapped wind from eating chole bhature. Don't worry, it happens to the best of us!

It can be extremely severe, but a simple walk, warm water, or a mild antacid usually clears it up. However, if the pain radiates to your left arm or is accompanied by heavy sweating and breathlessness, don't assume it is gas—go to the ER immediately.
