How are ozone depletion and skin cancer rates related?

Having heard a lot about global warming and environmental issues lately, I'm curious to understand the connection between ozone depletion and increasing skin cancer rates. Is there a direct link that explains this?

Look, it is very simple. The ozone layer acts like a shield that blocks harmful UV rays from the sun. When it gets thin, more UV rays reach us, which directly damages skin cells and increases skin cancer cases. Always wear sunscreen and protect yourself when going out in the harsh sun.

When we train outdoors, we get direct exposure to the sun. Since the ozone layer is depleted, the UV index is often quite high, which increases cellular damage and cancer risk over the years. I always recommend wearing UV-protective activewear and avoiding outdoor runs during peak afternoon hours.

Haan na, the pollution is ruining the ozone layer, which is our natural umbrella against the sun. Because of this, dangerous UV radiation is hitting us directly, leading to more skin issues and cancer risk. We must use a good sunscreen and cover up with a scarf while going out in the afternoon.

I was just reading some articles on this because of the extreme summers we are having. It seems a 1% decrease in the ozone layer can actually cause a significant rise in skin cancer rates worldwide. Does anyone know if typical Indian skin has better natural protection against this due to melanin?

Hey, don't stress too much about this global level stuff, just focus on what you can control! Less ozone means more harsh sun rays reaching your skin, which can damage cells over time. Just make a habit of wearing SPF 30+ every day, and you'll be perfectly fine!

As someone who regularly gets health checkups due to thyroid issues, I believe we must be proactive about skin health too. Ozone depletion lets harmful UV radiation penetrate our skin, raising cancer risk. If you notice any unusual moles or skin changes, please consult a dermatologist immediately.
