How a thyroid biopsy is performed?

I recently had a thyroid ultrasound, and the report showed a nodule, so the doctor recommended a biopsy. I'm feeling a bit nervous about the procedure. Could someone please describe how a thyroid biopsy is performed? What should I expect?

It is basically a Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) biopsy. They use a very thin needle under ultrasound guidance to take a tiny tissue sample from the thyroid nodule. It is done in minutes and you can walk right out.

My mom had this done last year. They just put a little local anesthetic spray on the neck and used a small needle to draw cells. She said it felt like a tiny pinch, nothing to panic about at all.

While simple throat massages and warm salt gargles are good for daily neck stiffness, a thyroid biopsy must be done by a qualified doctor in a proper lab. Don't worry, it is a very small needle test.

The entire procedure takes barely 15 to 20 minutes in an outpatient clinic. You won't need hospitalization or any major time off work, just a band-aid on your neck.

Haan na, the word 'biopsy' sounds really big and scary, but it is actually just a simple needle test. Just take a deep breath and let the doctor do it, it gets over very fast.
