Does yogurt help you sleep?

Been struggling with insomnia lately, and I'm looking for natural ways to improve my sleep. I read somewhere online that eating yogurt before bed might help. Is this true, or just an old wives' tale?

I used to have trouble sleeping, so I started eating a small bowl of unsweetened curd after dinner. For me, it actually feels very soothing and cools down the stomach, which helps me sleep peacefully. But everyone's body is different, so see what works for you.

I read that yogurt has tryptophan which helps produce melatonin for sleep, so I got super hopeful. I was worried it might cause cold or sinus if eaten at night, but a small portion at room temperature seems fine. Hope it helps you get some rest!

I used to stress so much about my insomnia and try all sorts of weird remedies. Then my grandmother just told me to have a little dahi-rice at night. It is light, easy to digest, and actually makes you feel pleasantly sleepy. No need to panic, it works.

In our village, we always had a glass of sweet lassi or a bowl of fresh curd to stay calm and sleep well. It cools the system down after a long day. Eat it fresh and avoid very sour curd late at night.

Yogurt does contain nutrients that support sleep, but don't expect it to act like a sleeping pill. If your lifestyle involves late-night screen time and high stress, curd alone won't fix it. Fix your screen habits first, then use light dinner options.

I have PCOS and sleep issues, and while yogurt can help with digestion, dairy doesn't suit everyone at night. If you tolerate dairy well, Greek yogurt is a great protein-rich option before bed. Just monitor how your gut feels the next morning.

Yogurt is an excellent vegetarian source of calcium and protein, which are known to aid sleep hormone production. Just eat it at room temperature, as cold curd straight from the fridge can sometimes irritate your throat at night.

A calm mind is key to good sleep. Along with having a light bowl of curd, try doing 5 minutes of deep breathing or Bhramari pranayama before sleeping. It relaxes the nervous system beautifully.

If you are having yogurt at night for sleep, please make sure it is plain curd and not the sweetened flavored ones from the market. Sugar spikes will completely ruin your sleep cycle and blood sugar levels. Keep it simple and natural.

I track my sleep cycles on my smartwatch, and on days I have a light meal with yogurt, my deep sleep score is slightly better. It is probably because of the gut-brain connection. Definitely worth adding to your dinner routine.
