Does yellow fever vaccine hurt?

I have to get the yellow fever vaccine soon for an upcoming trip abroad. I really don't like injections, and I'm a bit nervous, so I wanted to ask if the yellow fever vaccine shot hurts a lot.

People on internet forums exaggerate the pain of vaccines. It's just a standard needle prick. Ask the nurse at the government health office directly, they do hundreds of these daily.

I got it done last month at the airport health clinic. Honestly, it didn't hurt at all. I was expecting a big deal but it was over in five seconds.

It is a subcutaneous injection, so the needle is quite thin. It only pinches for a second, just don't tense your arm muscles during the shot and it will be painless.

My physician told me that the yellow fever vaccine is given just under the skin rather than deep into the muscle, which makes it less painful than a tetanus shot. It just leaves a mild soreness for a day.

The needle pain is very minor, child. If the spot feels hot or sore afterwards, just apply a cold ice pack wrapped in a clean cloth. Don't rub the area too hard.

I have helped many colleagues get their travel shots. It doesn't hurt much at all, just a normal prick. Just drink plenty of water and rest after the shot.
