Does xylitol gum prevent cavities?

My college friends always chew xylitol gum after meals, saying it's great for teeth. I'm curious if this is true – does xylitol gum actually prevent cavities, or is it just a myth?

Hey, don't stress too much about cavities! Chewing xylitol gum actually helps because it cleans the teeth and stops bad bacteria. Just pop one after meals and you're good to go.

I barely get 4 hours of sleep and survive on black coffee, which is a disaster for my teeth. Xylitol gum is the only thing keeping my mouth from falling apart, honestly. It keeps the cavities away when I'm too tired to brush twice.

I was also reading about this recently. Does anyone know which brand in India has the highest percentage of xylitol? I really want to try it for my weak teeth but am a bit confused.

Haan, it is very good for teeth. My daughter brought some sugar-free gum from the city and said it keeps teeth clean and strong. It really helps prevent dental pain if you chew it regularly.

My dentist at Kokilaben Hospital told me that while xylitol gum helps reduce plaque, it cannot replace brushing and flossing. You should ask your doctor clearly about how often to use it based on your specific dental health.
