Does white rice cause weight gain?

My nutritionist told me to cut down on white rice if I want to lose weight. But ghar pe sab log yahi khate hain, it's our main food! Is it really that bad for weight gain, especially when eaten in normal portions?

Haan na, white rice ko toh sabne badnaam kar rakha hai. Main toh daily limited portion mein khati hoon dal ke saath aur weight sahi chal raha hai. Bas quantity check mein rakho toh tension nahi hoti.

My son also had this doubt when he started his fitness journey. I told him that plain white rice doesn't make you fat unless you eat plates full of it without any physical activity. We just started adding lots of green veggies and paneer in his bowl to balance the carbs, and he is doing great.

When I visited my clinical nutritionist at Apollo last month, I asked this exact question. She told me clearly that weight gain is about total daily calories, not just white rice. Better to get a personalized diet chart made from a qualified doctor or hospital dietitian instead of following online trends.

If you are gaining weight suddenly despite normal food intake, please get your blood sugar and thyroid checked once. Don't blame rice directly without knowing how your body is processing it. It's always safer to rule out hormonal issues first with a routine test.

At 51, even looking at hot biryani makes me feel like I gained half a kilo! But honestly, rice isn't the real culprit, our lazy lifestyle is. If we sit on the sofa all day, even salad will start acting like high-calorie food, so eat mindfully.

White rice is actually a great source of quick digesting carbs, especially post-workout. Just keep track of your overall daily macros and stay in a calorie deficit if your goal is weight loss. Pair it with a solid protein source like chicken, fish, or soya and you are good to go.
