Does white rice cause diabetes?

My mother and father both have diabetes, so I'm very conscious about my diet. We eat a lot of white rice at home, and I've heard some people say it can cause diabetes. Is it true that eating white rice directly leads to developing diabetes?

Don't be scared, white rice alone doesn't cause diabetes directly. But since it has a high glycemic index, eating too much of it can spike your sugars, so moderation is key.

Both thyroid and blood sugar issues require close medical monitoring. If you are worried about diabetes, please get a fasting blood glucose test done rather than just cutting out foods.

Instead of switching to expensive quinoa or brown rice, just reduce your white rice portion and increase dal. It's much cheaper and saves you money on regular HbA1c tests.

My husband has type 2 diabetes, and we still cook white rice but we always serve it with a big bowl of salad and leafy greens. It is about how you balance the plate for your family.

It is all about the total daily carbohydrate intake and activity levels. If you are working out regularly, having white rice post-workout is actually great for recovery.

Haan na, we Maharashtrians love our daily bhaat! But my doctor told me to add more dal and vegetables to it so the fiber prevents sudden sugar spikes.
