Yes, active cannabis use can temporarily alter your T3, T4, and TSH levels, which can lead to a misleading blood test report. I highly recommend abstaining for at least a week or two before you go for your blood draw to get accurate results.

I have a thyroid blood test scheduled for this Friday and I used weed a couple of days ago. Will it show up as abnormal TSH on the report? I am so worried that the results will be wrong and I will get prescribed the wrong dose.

Just like blood sugar tests, thyroid tests are highly sensitive to what we put in our bodies. It is always best to be completely clean before any clinical tests. Make sure you also inform your doctor about your lifestyle so they can interpret the results correctly.

Blood tests are not cheap, and you don't want to waste money on a test that gives inaccurate results only to have to repeat it again. Stop using any substances for a few days before the test to ensure you get a correct reading the very first time.

I panicked last year because my TSH levels came back slightly off after a weekend of heavy weed use. I thought I had developed a permanent thyroid condition. But my doctor told me it can cause temporary fluctuations; we retested after two weeks of no use and it was perfectly normal.
